About Forest lake Nature School

Our Story

Forest Lake Nature School was founded with a simple belief—that children thrive when they are connected to the natural world. What began as a small gathering of families who valued outdoor learning has grown into a vibrant community rooted in curiosity, play, and respect for the environment. From the very first day, our vision has been to create a place where children can explore, imagine, and discover through hands-on experiences in the forest, fields, and lakes that surround us. Every tree, stone, and stream becomes a teacher, and every day is an opportunity to grow together.

Mission & Culture

At Forest Lake Nature School, our mission is to nurture resilient, creative, and connected children by weaving nature, community, and skill-building into daily life. We believe that every child deserves the chance to grow in relationship with the land, to discover their gifts in a supportive community, and to carry forward skills and values that last a lifetime.

Our culture is rooted in:

  • Life-Changing Mentorship – Every guide your child interacts with is committed to helping them become the person they are meant to be and the person you, as a parent, dream for them to become. We aim to be the kind of mentors children look back on for the rest of their lives — the ones who shaped their confidence, inspired their passions, and made them feel safe, seen, and loved.

  • Relationship with the Land – Children learn not just in nature, but with nature. Through foraging, gardening, harvesting, and play, they come to see the land as teacher, friend, and provider.

  • Belonging & Community – We create a village atmosphere where every child feels safe, seen, and valued. Songs, stories, and shared meals cultivate gratitude and connection.

  • Play & Imagination – Play is not separate from learning — it fuels it. Children’s passions and ideas often spark the projects and adventures that carry the most meaning.

  • Practical Skills for Life – From fire tending to carpentry, from music to cooking, children develop real-world abilities that strengthen confidence now and serve them throughout life.

  • Reverence & Rhythm – We honor the sacredness of food, story, and gathering. Rituals of gratitude, seasonal celebrations, and daily rhythms create stability and meaning.

We hold that the work of childhood is to explore, imagine, and belong. Our mission is to create a living school culture where those natural gifts are protected and nourished — where children can grow strong in body, kind in spirit, and deeply rooted in the world around them.
